SINN Féin Councillor Eric McGinley has called for more police resources to deal with car crime in the Ballymagroarty and Hazelbank area.
His call came after an incident in the Ballymagroarty area in the early hours of Sunday morning when a car was set on fire .
Said Councillor McGinley: “Residents have been in contact with me shocked that they were wakened on hearing a loud crash around 5am on Sunday morning.
“The vehicle was then set on fire and the Fire Service had to attend the scene.
“I have arranged now for the car to be removed from the scene.
“There are great concerns in the area about the increase in car crime.
“There has to be a zero tolerance approach to this recklessness and those responsible must be held to account for their actions before someone loses their life.
“And the PSNI must look at putting additional resources into this area to tackle this issue,” he added.
