THESE are the dramatic scenes in Derry yesterday when an oil delivery truck went on fire.
Residents said a “river of burning oil” flowed down the street in Woodbrook West off the Buncrana Road.
As the pictures residents show, the rear of the Gillen’s Fuels truck went on fire as it was delivering home heating oil to a house in the street.
Fortunately, the driver escaped uninjured in the freak incident.
Four fire tenders were dispatched to the scene to prevent the burning oil affecting any homes.
In a statement on Facebook following the incident, Gillen Fuels said: “Fire now contained folks.
“The NIEA (Northern Ireland Environment Agency) have been out assessed the area.
“Our main concern was that our driver was ok. Bit shook up as to be expected.”
