IT was a night to live long in the memory as the biggest and best Hallowe’en carnival party in the world took to the streets of Derry.
Tens of thousands of people took to the streets last night for a spooktacular night to remember.And for ex-pats living abroad they didn’t miss out either.
From London to Australia and Birmingham to New York, ex-pats soaked up the carnival atmosphere thanks to the wonders of the worldwide web.
Derry City and Strabane District Council pulled out all the stops to ensure that no one misses out on the internationally famous festivities and last night’s ‘Rise Of The River Gods’ themed carnival was streamed on the Council’s website – from 7 pm to 8 p.
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District, Councillor Elisha McCallion, said she is delighted that the celebrations reached a wider global audience.
“I was thrilled that Council was able to provided the live stream on its website to capture all the atmosphere at the Rise of the River Gods carnival parade.
“Our annual carnival has gone from strength to strength and we were delighted when Derry was named the best Hallowe’en destination in the world in the recent USA Today poll.
“Thanks to Council’s live stream on October 31st, thousands of people in far flung destinations will still be able to be with us in spirit.
“The live stream will also enable those people in our own local communities who, due to mobility or health reasons, may not be able to come to the parade, to view it from the comfort of their own homes.
“We also anticipate considerable interest from the ex-pat community in watching the live stream.

The Rise Of The River Gods street carnival parade started at Queen’s Quay car park at 7 pm, snaking its way across Boating Club Lane and up Strand Road towards Harbour Roundabout, before travelling down Queen’s Quay to the Council offices.
The Hallowe’en festivities, which finished with a massive Fireworks Finale on the River Foyle at 8 pm.
It was a massive tourist boost for the city with every hotel booked out solid making it an economic success.
