PAUL Hegarty has declined Derry City’s offer to take over as manager for “personal reasons”, the club has said in a statement.
Hegarty was handed the caretaker position until the end of the season in September after Peter Hutton was sacked as manager.
Derry were in relegation trouble when the former Brandywell player arrived but Hegarty guided the team to safety.
The Candystripes finished in seventh place after going down 4-2 away to Longford Town on Friday night.
His decision leaves City still searching for a new manager for next season.
The club said it will issue a fuller statement in due course.
