TWO teenagers have been arrested over a suspected hit-and-run incident in Derry in the early hours of this morning.
A pedestrian was rushed to Altnagelvin Hospital after being struck on Abercorn Road around 3 am and suffering head injuries.
His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Two suspects – aged 18 and 19 – were later arrested under the Road Traffic (NI) Order.
A car, a white Ford Focus with an English registration starting with the letters ‘FH’, which was believed to have been involved in the suspected hit and run was later recovered at Alexander Park.
It has been taken to Maydown PSNI station for examination.
The two teenagers are being questioned at Strand Road police station on suspicion of causing grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving, failing to stay at the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident.
Detective Sergeant Brian Read, who is investigating the incident, has appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
“We are keen to hear from anyone who saw the car before the incident, witnessed the collison, or saw it being drive away and left at Alexander Place,” added DS Reid.
Anyone with information is asked to ring detectives at Strand Road on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
