DERRY is certainly the place to be this weekend with a whole host of colourful and creative events taking place for fans of fashion, design and craft taking place at venues across the city.
Two of the district’s most popular events – Fashion Fest 2015 and the Guildhall Craft Fair – will be shining the spotlight on local creative talent, with catwalks, showcases and workshops bringing the glamour from Thursday.
The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District, Councillor Elisha McCallion, said she was looking forward to a busy weekend with plenty of opportunities for people to bag a festive bargain and in turn support local businesses.
“I can’t wait to get out and about this weekend, it’s a fantastic opportunity to visit the city and see some of the creative talent at work.
“Fashion Fest was a real highlight last year and I’m looking forward to seeing the collections by both local designers and established names such as top Irish designer Helen Cody.
“The annual Guildhall Christmas Craft Fair is always exceptionally popular and a great way to find unique handcrafted pieces which make great alternative gifts for anyone looking for a bit of festive inspiration.
“It’s also a great opportunity to support our local craft industry and find out more about the skill and craftsmanship that goes into their work.
“I would encourage people to come along and enjoy a great weekend out in Derry, and the official launch of our exciting Christmas events programme.”
Fashion Fest kicks off on Thursday morning with a series of creative workshops featuring industry experts and designers, followed by a Designer Showcase event on Thursday afternoon.
