POLICE this evening have evacuated a number of homes in Co Derry in the hunt of a ‘bomb’.
The PSNI have been searching for an explosive device for the past 24 hours in the rural Drumsurn area near Dungiven.
A spokesman said: “Police remain in the area tonight.
“The search area has been extended and several homes have now been evacuated.
“The scene will be held overnight with further search activity to commence on Friday.”
The alert was sparked following an anonymous telephone call in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
At first the call claimed the device was left in Dungiven,
But police later revised this and said it was in the village of Drumsurn.
Police have advised anyone who spots any suspicious device to ring 999 immediately.
