POLICE say the three day security operation to defuse a bomb in Co Derry has now ended.
It follows the discovery of a ‘viable explosive device’ on Friday evening in the village of Drumsurn outside Dungiven.
A controlled explosion was carried out on the device on Friday evening by Army Technical Officers.
The device was found on the Legavallon Road.
Police have not yet revealed the nature of the device found.
The security operation has now ended and all roads in the area have now re-opened which is a huge relief to residents, many of them elderly.
The area had been the centre of a security operation this week, with police saying they were searching for an explosive device.
The search was launch after details of an anonymous call was passed to police saying a bomb had been left in the area.
On Friday afternoon, dissident republican group Oglaigh na hEireann claimed they had planted a bomb in the remote area outside Dungiven five weeks ago.
The intended target was Army Reservists who were carrying out training in the area.
Police said last night that a controlled explosion was carried out and “it has now been determined that this object was a viable explosive device”.
Detective Inspector Stuart Griffin said: “I would like to thank the people of Drumsurn for their continuing support and patience while we have dealt with this security operation over the last two days and I ask that this continues as this lengthy operation carries on into tomorrow.”
