IRELAND are on their way to France after a Jonathan Waters double at the Aviva Stadium tonight sent Martin O’Neill’s side through to the European Championships.
It was just reward for manager Martin O’Neill, the man from south Derry, who has used all his footballing knowledge to drive the team forward and clinch a place in next summer’s finals in France.
A goal in either half, the first a penalty, takes Ireland through to the Euros 3-1 on aggregate after Friday’s draw in foggy Zenica.
But it was a much clearer picture from the off as the glory days returned to Lansdowne Road.
Donegal’s Seamus Coleman was exceptional throughout – cheered on from the stands by Ireland legend Shay Given.
But every single player in green was outstanding tonight.
They wanted it – and so did we.
There was a minute’s silence before the game in memory of the 130 people murdered in Paris on Friday night.
Fans will celebrate tonight – and celebrate going to France next year.
But the awful tragedy of the weekend will never be forgotten.
