SINN Féin MLA Cathal Ó hOisín has said that he is disappointed that the Lough Foyle Ferry Company will not reapply for a tender and are intending to put the ferry up for sale.
Mr Ó hOisín said: “The Lough Foyle Ferry Company has operated over the past few years opening up the area to tourists and businesses.
“I am disappointed that the Foyle Ferry Company has decided not to reapply for the tender to operate the route and have indicated they will sell the ferry.
“It is crucial for the development of the region that we protect the current infrastructure including the ferry service between Magilligan and Greencastle.
“I am calling on the Department of Regional Development to give the same consideration to a subsidy for this service that is given to the Rathlin and Strangford ferries.
“I have worked hard with the ferry company over the past decade to ensure that it remained in place and I hope that we can put in place measures that will allow the service to continue.”
