STORMONT HOUSE AGREEMENT: NO DEAL ON PAST IS A ‘SERIOUS FAILURE’, SAYS EASTWOOD

NEWLY appointed SDLP leader Colum Eastwood said the new Stormont House Agreement was letting down victims.

He said the failure by Sinn Fein to secure a deal on the thorny legacy issued was a “very serious failure”.

The Foyle MLA said: “We all signed up to a process where we would have all the parties around a table, trying to come up with a comprehensive deal, and then two parties went off and did their own deal.

“We’re not going to be bounced into signing up to anything until we’ve had a proper chance to look at it.

“But we’re very disappointed that the issue around the past has once again been left out.

“The absence of comprehensive proposals on the past is a very serious failure.

“Those who persist in impeding truth and accountability cannot prevail,” added the SDLP leader.
