AN apprentice welder has appeared in a Derry court charged with two egg attacks on Martin McGuinness.
Aodhan Irwin, who is aged 19 and from Acacia Avenue, in the Waterside area, denies two charges of disorderly behaviour.
He faced Derry Magistrates’ Court this morning to fix a date for his contest hearing.
The first charged reads that the “defendant on September 10, 2015, in the County Court Division of Derry, used disorderly behaviour in a public place, namely Nailors Row, Derry contrary to Article 18(1)(a) of the Public Order (Northern Ireland) Order 1987.”
The second charges states that the “defendant on September 10, 2015, in the County Court Division of Derry, used disorderly behaviour in a public place, namely at the junction of Westland Street and Westland Terrace, Derry, contrary to Article 18(1)(a) of the Public Order (Northern Ireland) Order 1987.”
It is understood the charges relate to an egg attack on the deputy first minister’s home and when he was filming on Derry’s Walls.
Irwin was released on continuing bail to appear back in court in January.
Mr McGuinness is expected to be called to give evidence in the case as a prosecution witness.
