DERRY teenager Soak has missed out on winning a top music award.
Real name Bridie Monds-Watson, Soak received the Mercury Prize nomination for her debut album Before We Forgot How To Dream.
But she was pipped to the 2015 Mercury Music prize by Londoner Benjamin Clementine for his debut album, At Least For Now.
Apart from Soak, the Londoner beat competition from the likes of Florence + The Machine, Wolf Alice and Supergrass star Gaz Coombes.
“I don’t know what to say,” the 26-year-old said as he accepted the prize, then invited all the other nominees to take to the stage with him.
He then broke down in tears as he dedicated his award to the victims of the Paris terror attacks.
The musician spent his early 20s living in the city, and busked on the metro as a struggling musician.
After receiving her nomination in September, Soak said: “Life is crazy. Thank you.”
The singer-songwriter, who started writing the album when she was 14, has won a legion of fans at home and abroad for her stark, confessional ballads, which document her turbulent teenage years.
The 19-year-old was born in Belfast but was brought in Derry by her family.
