FAMILY, friends and neighbours are planning to do a leaflet drop this evening as the search continues for missing Derry pensioner John Concannon.
They have carried out three days of a ‘foot search’ for the 71-year-old in the Lenamore Road area of Derry where John was last seen getting off a bus.
His family have thanked the several hundred people who have braved the elements to go searching for John in recent days.
His niece Rachel Concannon posted on Facebook: “Today Tuesday 24th November there will be no official search planned this page.
“As a family we are grouping today to plan next few days searches.
“Fianait Gallagher will be doing leaflet drops off at houses in certain areas in the lenamore, glenabbey area if anyone wants to help her.
“But if anyone wishes to search, we are aiming on concentrating our efforts towards the Bridgend and Burt/Burnfoot area.”
The search for John is resuming this evening.
Searchers have been asked to gather at the Irish School at 6.30 pm.
Those interested in helping in the search should check with the Facebook page ‘Foot search for John Concannon” for any updates.
They are advised to bring appropriate footwear, warm clothing and if possible a high vis vest.
John, who suffers from dementia, went missing exactly a fortnight ago after getting on the wrong bus.
Police, underwater search teams, a search dog, volunteers, family, friends and neighbours of Mr Concannon have painstakingly combing the Lenamore area and beyond in the hope of tracing him.
Gardai in Donegal have also been urging farmers to check outbuildings in case John has taken refuge from the winter rain and wind.
