POLICE say a viable pipe bomb device has been uncovered during a security alert in Co Derry.
A number of homes have been evacuated.
Police are currently at the scene in the Ard Na Smoll area of Dungiven following the discovery of a suspicious object.
Inspector Michael McDonnell said the alert will continue for a number of hours.
He added: “I would like to thank local residents for their patience during what has been a very disruptive night for them.
“Police are still at the scene and it is envisaged the security alert will continue for a number of hours.”
Local Sinn Fein councillor Sean McGlinchey has said the pipe bomb was left on the doorstep of the house.
He condemned those behind the attack.
“This is the third incident over the past few weeks that has resulted in disruption to the local community,” says Sean McGlinchey.
“Thankfully, no one has been injured in this attack on a family home.”
