DERRY City & Strabane District Council, with the support of the Community Brooke Park User Groups, will mark the opening of the new 3G Football Pitch next week with a night of community football.
Local youth soccer clubs Phoenix FC and Oxford UTD will play a series of mini football games for boys aged 8-11 years from 6pm on Wednesday, December 9, followed by an adult exhibition match between Phoenix FC and Rosemount FC.
The event is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to come along to support the teams and be part of the opening celebrations.
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Elisha McCallion said: “We are delighted to both open the new 3G pitch and to welcome the parents, members and coaches of the local football clubs.
“The 3G pitch is a major addition to our leisure services and it offers a modern facility for local residents and clubs.
“We hope that after tonight’s celebration we will see more clubs and young people availing of both the 3g pitch and leisure centre.
“This is an exciting time for Council and for the local Rosemount community as we prepare for further developments in the Park in the coming months.”
The event begins at 6pm on Wednesday 09 December with a mini soccer demonstration and the adult exhibition game taking place at 7 pm.
Refreshments will be served at 8pm in Brooke Park Leisure Centre.
