Grieving family and friends will then take part in a celebration of his life at Portstewart Golf Club on Saturday evening.
Gerry was a talented golfer and played off a handicap of 1.
Mr McDermott’s funeral will take place at Sacred Heart Church in Omagh on Monday.
His family have asked for donations in lieu to the Claddagh Association in Perth or the Kevin Bell Repatriation Fund.
