DETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Terrorist Investigation Unit have charged two men over a bomb attack on Derry’s Waterfoot Hotel.
A viable bomb was left in the grounds of the Waterside hotel on October 9 this year.
The security alert forced the hotel to evacuate staff and guests from the complex which was due to host a PSNI recruitment drive.
Army Technical Officers later made the device safe following a lengthy security operation at the hotel.
Two men aged 34 and 41 were arrested by police under section 41 of the Terrorism Act on Wednesday during a planned arrest and search operation on Wednesday of this week.
They were whisked to the serious crime suite at Musgrave PSNI station in Belfast for questioning.
They are due to appear at Derry Magistrates’ Court this morning, Friday, November 4, for a first remand hearing.
Detectives are expected to oppose any bail application on the grounds of commission of further offences, risk of flight and failure to answer bail if released.
Following the planting of the device in the grounds of the hotel, the owners cancelled the PSNI recruitment event in the interests of the safety of staff and patrons.
