DETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Reactive and Organised Crime Branch are investigating a terrifying assault on a couple in a Derry in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The man and woman were attacked at a flat on Northland Road.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “At around 12:15 am on Saturday, December 12, three men entered a flat and assaulted a man and woman.
“A firearm and a knife were used in the incident and the male victim was struck on the face with the gun.
“It was recovered in follow up searches.
“The culprits demanded money from one of the victims, and made their escape with two mobile phones, cash and a holdall containing Christmas presents.
“One man was arrested and is currently assisting police enquiries at Strand Road police station.”
Detectives are appealing for any witnesses in the area of Northland Road who may have seen or heard suspicious activity to contact them on the 101 non-emergency number.
