LOTTERY cash is to be used to transform a disused railway museum in Derry into a support centre for people with learning disabilities.
The Foyle Valley Railway Museum has been lying empty for a number of years as controversy raged over how to put it to good use.
Now the Derry-based group Destined which supports people with learning disabilities has secured almost £1 million from the Big Lottery’s Space and Place Programme.
Destined will use the funding to create a North West Learning Disability Centre.
The same programme has also been given £1 million in funding for the development of a new park on the site of the old Faughan Valley School in Drumahoe.
The new facilities will include a play garden, a play environment and meeting space.
There will also be a synthetic pitch and changing facilities.
The park will feature more access to Drumahoe pitches and a biodiversity element with a wildflower meadow and walking trail along the River Faughan.
