A 20-year-old has been refused bail and remanded in custody over a terrifying robbery ordeal for a couple at the weekend in Derry.
Joseph McCallion, of Glenowen Park, faced Derry Magistrates’ Court today charged with robbing the couple of £100 in cash along with Christmas presents.
McCallion denies the charges.
The PSNI said at the time: “At around 12:15 am on Saturday, December 12, three men entered a flat and assaulted a man and woman.
“A firearm and a knife were used in the incident and the male victim was struck on the face with the gun.
“It was recovered in follow up searches.
“The culprits demanded money from one of the victims, and made their escape with two mobile phones, cash and a holdall containing Christmas presents.”
Police said three men were involved in the attack and were armed with a gun and a large kitchen knife.
Two of them are still being hunted and detectives are reviewing CCTV in the city in a bid to find them.
McCallion’s bid for bail failed today because of the risk of reoffending and interfering with the two witnesses.
He was remanded to Hydebank Wood Young Offenders Centre where he will spend Christmas and New Year behind bars.
