STAFF at Optum UnitedHealth Group in Letterkenny have handed over €10,000 to charities today – with €2,500 going to Foyle Search and Rescue.
Many of the 650 staff in Co Donegal are from the Inishowen and Derry areas.
Pat Carlin, the Education and Media Officer with Foyle Search and Rescue, said today: “We are grateful to businesses such as Optum and the general public, who donate 85 per cent of the costs needed for us to continue our life-saving work.
“The charity is currently taking on new volunteers for next year and Optum’s donation will go towards the £500 needed to equip and train them.
‘”Since the charity’s inception in 1993, we have helped prevent over 2,500 suicides, saved 300 lives but sadly recovered over 120 bodies. In 1993, over a period of 18 months, 28 people drowned; thanks to the work of this charity and your support, this was down to two in 2015.”
Paul Duddy, human capital partner at Optum’s Letterkenny facilty says, “Optum’s employees are pleased they had an opportunity to help raise funds and play a small part in helping these charities serve the needs of the local community.”
