SINN Féin Councillor Tony Hassan has called on the roads service to reassess the traffic lights situated at of one the main arterial routes in the city – the Buncrana Road and Collon junction.
Councillor Tony Hassan said: “I have been contacted by a number of constituents in regards to problems being caused by the traffic lights at the junction of the Buncrana Road with the Collon.
“Transport NI (Roads Service) reassessed the traffic lights there a number of weeks ago to see if it could free the traffic up and ease any back log along the Buncrana Road.
“This is one of the most congested roads in the city, and is a very busy road for both motorists and pedestrians.
“Over the last number of years Sinn Féin have made repeated calls to DRD Road Service now Transport NI to upgrade the Buncrana Road into the four lanes of traffic, something promised almost seven years ago.
“There is a clear need for something at this junction and along this road.
“We can’t put this on the long finger in the hope that future development may happen in this area.
“A lot has been talked about in terms of developments along this road but still they seem no nearer happening.
“I am calling on Transport NI to move on this issue as a matter of urgency.”
