STUDENTS of Glenside Adult Training Centre this week received some vital tips on personal safety as part of a special programme geared towards raising awareness about crime and community safety.
The students heard from the PSNI’s Crime Prevention Officer Rumena McCabe, who provided some valuable advice when it comes to handling threats to personal safety.
The students are currently completing a module on keeping themselves safe and had the opportunity to talk through situations and discuss methods of dealing with threats.
PCSP Manager with Derry City and Strabane District Council, Vanessa Russell, also attended the event and said it had been an extremely helpful session in terms of raising public awareness.
“This was a very interactive, informal event and it was a great opportunity to engage with local students and help to address some of their concerns,” she said.
“We had some really productive feedback from the participants which will help us to focus our future efforts in addressing the concerns of the local community in dealing with crime.
“It was a great opportunity to make people aware of the risks and best equip them to deal with certain situations.”
Students attending the event were also presented with a personal safety pack including information leaflets and some personal security products.
