Daryl Gurney beaten 4-1 by reigning world champion Gary Anderson

DERRY’S Daryl Gurney was beaten by Gary Anderson who threw a magnificent 170 checkout during his victory to light up the Alexandra Palace in the World Darts Championship.

‘The Flying Scotsman’ was already a set and a leg down to Gurney and needed to produce something spectacular during the Boxing Day clash.

Anderson proved exactly why he’s the reigning world champion as he hit the highest checkout possible.

The final score was 4 sets to one to Anderson but the game was a lot closer than that.

But Gurney ran Anderson all the way and hit a 116 check out in the fifth set which went to a deciding leg.

Anderson broke through once again and hit his double to seal a hard-fought victory and a place in the third round.
