psni 8THE PSNI say they no longer believe a man was set on fire in Derry – and that the incident was an accident.

Detectives have viewed CCTV footage and say they are satisfied there was “no third party involvement”.

A PNSI spokesman said this evening: Police have now viewed CCTV footage of the incident during which a man’s trousers caught fire in Derry/Londonderry earlier this week.

“Officers are satisfied the fire was accidental, there was no third party involvement and no crime was committed against this man.”

A number of people went to the aid of the homeless man in Foyle Street around 7pm on Sunday.

They poured water over the blaze to save the man.

Police launched an investigation after a local newspaper reported the man had been deliberately set on fire.

However police say that DID NOT happen and they are no longer investigating the incident.
