HUNDREDS of people are expected to brave the rain this morning to pay their respects to an ‘inspiring’ Derry GAA fan Christopher O’Neill.
Christopher died earlier this week and was well known in south Derry GAA circles for his loyal support to his local team St Oliver Plunkett’s GAC in Greenlough.
He battle all his life with Spina Bifida and although wheelchair bound friends say he remained active and independent.
Club chairman Sean Mullan said Christopher was a “very outgoing fellow, down to earth, every approachable and a gentleman”.
He added: “Christopher was very well know locally and the family are very well respected and an integral part of our club for years.
“He was a very passionate supporter of the club from he was a young boy and never missed a game, home or away.
“He was always upbeat and an inspiration to others.
“He will be sadly missed by all at the club and his family.
“It’s a great tragedy and an awful loss to us as a parish.”
Christopher, who tragically passed away on Wednesday, is survived by his parents Stafford and Angela and brothers Paul, Stephen, Adrian, Declan and fiancee Carmen.
Requiem Mass is being held this morning, Saturday, December 9 at 11 am in St Oliver Plunkett’s Church, Clady.
