PARENTS are being warned to talk to the their children about ‘stranger danger’ in Derry.
It follows an incident reported to have happened in the Ardgrange area on Sunday night.
One parent told former SDLP MLA Pat Ramsey about the incident.
The parent said: “On Sunday, January 10, at approximately 7.30 pm, three young girls, aged 8-9 years old were potentially approached by a man in a white van in the Ardgrange area.
“Two men, wearing “all black” including black hats were sitting in a white van outside a block of flats close to the “green” area.
“The double doors at the back of the van were not closed properly.
“The driver looked at them, smiled and got out of the van as if to approach them but the girls seeing this, quickly ran away!
“The driver got back into the van and sped off towards Grangemore!
“Please everyone teach your children Stranger Danger!!”
The parent added that the van had extra windows at the sides which may set it apart from other white vans.
It is not the first ‘Stranger Danger’ alert reported recently in Derry involving a white van.
Only a few days earlier on Tuesday, January 5 around 5 pm there was another incident involved a white van.
Newbuildings parent Graham Warke said: “The van stopped and a person tried to grab a child in the Newbuildings area.
“I am so glad that the young person ran off and got safely home and told his parents.
“This is a parents worst nightmare.
“I really hope that whoever was involved is caught. Its worth talking to your children about Stranger Danger.
“I know l have tonight,” he added.
Anyone with information about vehicles approaching young children should contact police on the 101 number immediately.
