SINN Féin MLA Maeve McLaughlin has called on the Minister of Social Development to clarify the future of the Foyle Haven Day Centre in Derry.
It follows the news that staff at the centre have been put on “protective notice”.
Said Ms McLaughlin: “It is concerning that staff at the Foyle Haven Day Centre in Derry, which provides practical assistance and support to those dealing with addiction and homelessness in the city, have been placed on protective notice.
“This announcement will cause a great deal of anxiety to the staff at the centre who carry out great work for those most in need.
“The centre had previously been funded by The Big Lottery.
“However, that funding expired at the end of last year.
“Since then they have been in contact with several bodies, including the Housing Executive, in an attempt to secure additional funding.
“Foyle Haven provides a much-needed service in this city in terms of helping those struggling with addiction and homelessness.
“I have now submitted a question to the Minister of Social Development Maurice Morrow to clarify the situation regarding the future of this vital service and if the Housing Executive will be in a position to provide additional support.”
