AN INVESTIGATION is underway to find out what sparked a fire on board a ship docked in Derry today.
The Fire and Rescue Service say they received a call at 6:53 am following a report of a fire in a cabin on a ship in the Lisahally Port area.
A spokesman said: “Four fire appliances from Crescent Link Fire Station, three fire appliances from Northland Fire Station, two from from Strabane Fire Station as well as assistance from Specialist Rescue Teams from Belfast and the Fire Emergency Support Service dealt with the fire.
“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using hosereel jets dealt with the fire, working closely with the local Port Authority during the incident.
“All crew members were accounted for and there are no reports of any injuries.”
The area was declared safe around 8.30 am.
