FIRE crews came to the rescue of an elderly woman confined to a wheelchair at the weekend after a blaze broke out at her single storey Co Derry home.
The NIFRS say: “Crews responded to a report of a fire at a bungalow at De Glin Park in Claudy, on Saturday, around 11.14.
“Firefirefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hosereel jet to put out the fire in the kitchen.
“Crews rescued a 73-year-old wheelchair bound woman from the premises.
“She was taken to hospital by ambulance to be treated for shock and mild smoke inhalation.
“Sounding smoke alarm alerted occupier to the fire.
“The cause of the fire appeared accidental.
“Fire crew from Crescent Link station attended the incident.”
