THE Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Derry.
Weathermen say we should expect rain today which could become heavy at times and which may develop into snow, ice and wind as we approach the weekend.
The rain warning is in place from 2 pm today through until 10 am on Friday morning.
We can also expect winds gusting up to 70 mph at times.
The Met Office said: “The heaviest rain is expected during Thursday afternoon and also Friday morning, with the largest rainfall totals likely over west and southwest facing hills.
“The rain will be accompanied by south-westerly gales which could become severe in exposed areas.
“There will however be some drier spells during the warning period.
“Please be aware of the risk of localised flooding and potential impacts on travel.”
Later on Friday, a snow and ice warning will come into effect across Derry from 9 pm on Friday and is expected to be lifted at around 3 pm on Saturday.
“Showers, frequent and heavy at times, will turn increasingly to snow through Friday evening,” the Met Office said.
“Road surface temperatures are expected to fall below freezing overnight into Saturday morning, leading to a risk of icy patches forming.
“Be aware of some difficult driving conditions and localised disruption to travel.”
