IF you’re male, aged over 55 and looking for a new challenge, then this may be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for!
As part of the new round of the Arts for the Third Age, men from Derry and Strabane are being invited to join the Music to Your Ears programme, a creative and fun way to find your groove and make new friends.
Organised through Derry City and Strabane District Council, the classes are open to anyone with an interest in music and will be running over the next nine weeks.
The classes are about using music and the arts to enjoy the camaraderie that is found in bands and musical organisations, to re-ignite a love for music and the enjoyment of playing with a group of friends regardless of your current health issues.
The programme aims to provide a little escapism, away from daily chores or caring duties and the chance to enjoy a few hours of pleasure making sweet music.
The workshops will take place centrally in both Derry and in Strabane Library rooms working under the direction of two professional musicians, Mickey Joe Harte and Terry McCafferty.
The weekly classes will revisit popular music, help develop music skills and at the end of the programme the group will produce a collaborative piece of music.
Both sessions will run each Tuesday commencing February 16th in Strabane from 11am-1pm and in Derry 2.30pm to 4.30pm. These classes can be booked through the Alley Theatre Box office.
There will be further craft elements for men too as part of a four month programme of activities for Arts & Older People delivered by Council and titled Arts for the Third Age.
Support for this programme has been secured through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland under their Arts and Older Peoples Programme which is joint funded by Arts Council of Northern Ireland, Depart of Culture, Arts and Leisure, Public Health Agency and the Baring Foundation.
