DERRY City last night defeated Institute 3-2 on penalties to retain the Billy Kee Memorial Cup at Drumahoe.
It was the Brandywell side’s first major outing in a friendly with just four week to go to the start of the SSE Airtricity Premier League when they face Finn Harps away on Friday, March 4.
Derry goalkeeper Gerard Doherty pulled off two saves from ‘Stute’ players Alex Pomeroy and Aidan McCauley.
On target for the Candy Stripes were Rory Patterson, Josh Daniels and Nathan Boyle.
The game went to penalties after the game finished 2-2 at the full time whistle.
