DETAILS of the Brick Wonders LEGO Trail which will showcase the winning entries of the Brick Wonders LEGO competition that include Lego models of the Brandywell Stadium, Lisahally Port and Strabane’s Alley Theatre, have been unveiled by the Mayor Cllr Elisha McCallion.
The competition was organised by Derry City and Strabane District Council is part of the ongoing Brick Wonders Exhibition on show at the Nerve Centre until May 2nd, featuring over 70 LEGO creations by Warren Elsmore.
Congratulating the winners, Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District, Councillor Elisha McCallion said:
“I am so impressed by the standard of the entries, the pieces are extremely creative and really capture some of our most recognisable buildings and landmarks.
“The time involved in building such intricate designs makes it a real challenge so I would like to acknowledge the patience and dedication of all those who entered. I can’t wait to see the pieces go on display.”
Legacy Director with Derry City and Strabane District Council, Oonagh McGillion, said: “It was great to see that the competition captured the imaginations of children right across the country.
“The idea behind the competition was to get people thinking about their own towns and cities and how they would go about creating a LEGO piece that really captures their area.”
Among the winning entries were a model of Altnagelvin, featuring the Mayor herself, a model of Lisahally Port and the Alley Theatre’s Ambrose the Pig and these will be displayed at a number of venues across the city and district.
The LEGO Trail details are as follows: Youth First Club’s entry “Free Derry Corner” will be on display at Visit Derry; Jacob, Calum, Jamie & Jenna Crawford’s “Look on the Brickside” will be on display at the Guildhall; Matthew and Ruairi Curran’s “Brandywell stadium” can be viewed at the Derry City Strabane District Council Civic Offices, Derry; Simon Bradshaw’s “Lisahally Port” at Foyleside Shopping Centre; Lewis Kelly and his “Altnagelvin Hospital” can be viewed at the Paediatrics Ward, Althagelvin Hospital; Jamie Bonner and School Friends from Scoil Naomh Columba, Letterkenny’s entry “Burtonport to Derry” at Strabane Library; Gerry Brown’s “The Alley Theatre” will be on show at the Nerve Centre; Becky Phelan & Jessica Black, Strabane – scouts’ “Ambrose the Pig at the Alley Theatre – can be viewed at Derg Valley Leisure Centre; and Jessica Crawford’s Peace Mural – Rossville street will be on show at Derry City and Strabane District Council, Civic Offices, Strabane.
Encouraging the public to be part of the Trail, the Mayor said it was a great way of showcasing local talent and creating a real LEGO buzz across the city.
She said those attending the Brick Wonders Exhibition at the Nerve Centre should try and include the Trail as part of their LEGO experience!
For those of you who haven’t yet seen the Brick Wonders Exhibition tickets are still on sale and advance booking is strongly recommended especially at weekends and over holiday periods.

Prices: Under 2 yrs Free; Child (2-16yrs) £4; Adult (16+) £5; Family (1 Adult + 3 Children) £15; Family (2 Adults + 2 Children) £15. A £1.50 booking fee will apply. Group bookings (15+) can be made via Nerve Centre.
The Brick Wonders Exhibition is part of the City of Culture Legacy Programme and further events are planned in February including the Space Camp at the Tower Museum on Saturday 20th and the Colour of Science at the Foyleside Shopping Centre on Saturday 27th.
