POLICE have arrested two men on suspicion of causing cruelty and unnecessary suffering to animals.
The men, aged 28 and 22, were detained yesterday during a proactive investigation into alleged animal cruelty in Derry and Strabane.
The PSNI say the suspects were interviewed on suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering to animals under the 2011 Welfare of Animals NI Act.
They have since released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Three dogs were also seized during the planned arrest and search operation.
The animals were taken to veterinary surgeons for for specialist examination to assess any injuries sustained.
Searches were carried out by the Derry City and Strabane District Support Team, and the Waterside and Strabane Neighbourhood Policing Teams in the Claudy, Strabane and Ardmore areas.
