SINN Fein councillor Colly Kelly is urging residents to have their say over the transfer of Housing Executive housing stock at Rossville to housing associations in Derry.
Speaking today the Sinn Féin councillor said:
“We have been contacted by a number of residents in regards to proposals around the transfer of housing stock from the Housing Executive to Housing Associations.
Sinn Féin representatives met with the Housing Executive on Monday 8th Feb and outlined our opposition and concerns over these proposals.
We have submitted a motion to the Derry City and Strabane Council calling on the Department of Social Development to clarify fully its proposals to transfer hundreds of homes in the council area to Housing Associations, what impact that will have on tenants, tenancy agreements, rents and repairs.
“And the subsequent impact it will have on the future workings of Housing Executive locally in terms of staffing levels and service provision.
“It’s important that residents who don’t wish to transfer from the Housing Executive to Housing Association make their feelings known during the consultation, as this decision will be based on majority of residents voting for or against these proposals.
“If any resident has any issues or queries on this feel free to contact me 02871 71377551,” he added.
