THE body of Sean ‘Smurf’ Diver who had been missing from Strabane for over six weeks has been recovered in the water in Derry.
His remains were found in the Newbuildings area on Saturday morning by Community Search and Rescue, police confirmed.
The 39-year-old had been missing since January 27.
Police say that at this time the death is not being treated as suspicious.
Chief Inspector Ivor Morton said: “Police remain in contact with the family of Mr Diver.
“I would like to take this opportunity to offer my sincere condolences to them and Sean’s friends at this difficult time.”
Police had been conducting a number of searches for Mr Diver since he had been reported missing at the end of January.
Appeals had been launched by both the police and his family for him to make contact.
