THERE is joy and tears and of happiness this evening after the Foyle Down Syndrome Trust won £50,000 from the Big Lottery Fund.
The news was broken on UTV Live when North West report Gareth Wilkinson handed over the result.
The cash will now be used to deliver a 36 week cookery course plus other activities to young people in the Derry area with learning disabilities.
The group will now use the funding to work with 20 young people aged 16-30 with learning disabilities in the Derry area to deliver a 36 week cookery course and other activities.
The course will include food hygiene, catering and menu planning and budgeting leading to NVQ qualifications.
The young people will also visit a number of cookery schools across the North of Ireland.
The activities and support will increase their health and wellbeing, skills, independence and confidence.
