POLICE say officers arrested a total of 13 people in Derry in relation to St Patrick’s Day celebrations.
They were detained yesterday and the early hours of this morning for a range of offences which included disorderly behaviour, resisting police, indecent behaviour and common.
Two of these arrests were street bailed to appear at a police station at a later date.
A further two were given a Penalty Notice for Disorder at the time of the arrests.
A total of 170 people attended accident and emergency wing of Altnagelvin Hospital on Thursday.
Chief Inspector Alan Hutton said the St Patrick’s Day celebrations in the city were “successful” and the arrests were a “small percentage” of the thousands who turned out for the festivities.
He said: “There were thousands of people in the city yesterday to attend the celebrations and the number of arrests count as a very small percentage.
“Most of the arrests occurred in the evening time and are linked to people being inebriated.
“I would like to thank the organisers and participants in both Foyle and Strabane for their work and contribution to help make these St Patrick’s Day events so successful.
“In addition to these arrests, a 17 year old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent, possession of an offensive weapon and common assault.
“This followed the report of an 18 year old man being stabbed in the hand in the Grafton Street area just before 5.45pm.
“The 17 year old man, who also received injuries to his face, currently remains in custody assisting police with their enquiries.”
Thousands of people flocked to the streets yesterday for the St Patrick’s Day carnival with the sun shining down on proceedings.
