SDLP Foyle MLA Gerard Diver has condemned those behind a viable pipe bomb discovered in the Sperrin Park area of Derry today.
He said: “This is a close knit residential community.
“To have placed a pipe bomb in a densely populated area like this was utterly reckless and could have resulted in a real tragedy.
“Derry is a city transformed, there’s no room here for reckless thugs seeking to bring murder and mayhem back to our streets.
“Those behind this device had no concern whatsoever for the local people who might have got caught up in their plan for death and destruction.
“I would appeal to anyone with any information to get in touch with the PSNI as soon as possible so we can take these vicious thugs off our streets.”
