A local councillor has told how a fox was savaged to by dogs in a “brutal” attack on a Derry housing estate.
Sinn Féin Councillor Eric McGinley said the incident occurred in the Ballymagroarty area in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The Sinn Fein politician said: “A number of residents were awoken this morning by the sounds of a fox being savagely killed by dogs in Ballymagroarty.
“Whilst this type of practice does take place – and there is an ongoing debate on the rights and wrongs of this – I don’t believe it is at all appropriate to use hunting dogs in built up residential areas such as Ballymagroarty.”
He added: “People were subjected to the sights and sounds of a fox being viciously killed by hunting dogs.
“I would appeal to those who are engaged in this practice not to bring it in to residential areas.”
