SINN Fein MLA Raymond McCartney has welcomed the decision by GiffGaff to extend its contract with First Source, Derry for another three years securing employment at the Northland Road site.
Mr McCartney stated: “This decision by GiffGaff to extend its contract, when they clearly had other options, is a vote of confidence in the skills and abilities of the Derry work force at First Source.
“The redesigned and revamped facility for the GiffGaff operation at Northland Road is also an indication of First Source commitment to the Derry operation and the creativity and skills of its local work force.”
“Firstsource already employ 64 staff on the GiffGaff project and this contract extension will create a further 16 new jobs.
“I visited the Firstsource plant last week as part of an ongoing engagement with the company and its staff.
“I found it very informative to talk to both staff on the ground and the senior management team at the facility.
“I believe it is important to show them support and to assist in whatever way possible to ensure the sustainability, retention of existing jobs and securing of additional investment and expansion at the Derry site.
“Indeed this is a task that I am very confident the senior team at Firstsource are energetically pursuing and will with our support and a first class workforce, continue to deliver additional employment in the time ahead.”
