Two men questioned at Strand Road police station after a man was threatened in a bar in the Watersidce area last week

POLICE are appealing for information following an incident in a bar on Spencer Road in Derry’s Waterside area during which a man was threatened with a knife.

The incident happened on Wednesday, March 16, but details have only just been released by the PSNI

At around 7.55 pm, police received a report that a male had entered a bar and threatened another man.

The man is said to have pulled out a knife before leaving the bar and jumping into the passenger side of a blue waiting car.

Police say no-one was injured in the incident.

Less than half an hour later just after 8.20 pm, police on patrol arrested a 42 year old man and a 21 year old man in the Manorwood area.

They were detained on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

The 21 year old man was also arrested on suspicion of obstructing police officer in the execution of his duty.

A knife was found in the car that they were travelling in and it was seized for forensic examination.

The two men were taken to Strand Road PSNI station for questioning and were later released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Investigating officer Constable McClean is appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

He said: “I would ask for any witnesses to this incident to contact police at Strand Road Police Station on the non-emergency number 101.

“Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
