POLICE are investigating an assault in the Waterside area of Derry which left a man in hospital.
The vicious assault happened in the Broomhill Avenue area in the early hours of Thursday last.
But details of the attack have only just been released by police in the city.
The PSNI that at around 3.20 am officers received a report that a 34 year old man was being assaulted by two other men.
One theory being investigated is that all three men may have walked together from a bar in the Waterloo Street area.
The two attackers made off on foot towards Nelson Drive.
The victim was treated at Alnagelvin Hospital for his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.
Investigating police have appealed for information
Constable Andrew Robinson said: “I would ask anyone who knows anything about this assault to contact Strand Road Police Station on the non-emergency number 101.
“Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
