SINN Féin Councillor Tony Hassan has welcomed the news that new traffic lights are being installed on the Racecourse Road outside St Patrick’s Primary school in Pennyburn.
He said:“This will help the safety of children and parents who have to cross this road at peak times in the morning and in the afternoon.
“I commend Transport NI for looking at the safety concerns of the children and parents who attend the school.
“It is important that Transport NI do all in their power to have a Safe Route to schools programme in as many schools as possible across the city.”
Councillor Hassan also said safety measures also need to be introduced outside other Derry schools.
“I am calling on Transport NI to install the Safe Routes to schools programme at Hollybush school and at the Ardan Road in Culmore area of the city.
“When they installed traffic calming measures in that road last year they did not put in the Safe Route scheme at that time,” he added.
