A WOMAN has been slightly injured after a fridge exploded at the North West Regional College in Derry.
Part of the college on the Strand Road was evacuated around 8.30 am this morning following the explosion in the canteen.
The canteen worker was taken to Altnagelvin Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.
Three tenders from the Fire and Rescue Service were tasked to the scene.
The North West Regional College said in a statement the explosion was caused by a “failure in one of the aisle chilling units in the Tower canteen.”
The statement went on: “One member of staff was taken to A&E for minor injuries sustained during the incident and has subsequently been released.
“The Tower building was re-opened at 10.20 am.
“Other buildings in the College’s Strand Road campus were not affected.”
The Health Safety Executive NI is to investigate the incident.
