DETECTIVES are warning the public to be on their guard over bogus e-mails they receive about a lottery linked to this summer’s 2016 European Football Championships in France.
The alarm was first raised by Assistant Chief Cosntable Stephen Martin on his twitter feed.
ACC Martin, a former Derry police chief, warned the public not to be taken in by the fraud.
This has now been followed by Detective Constable Crooks of the PSNI’s Economic Crime Unit.
DC Crooks warned the public to be aware that the scam is “once again doing the rounds.”
He added: “We are aware that people in Northern Ireland are being targeted with this type of scam letter (pictured).
DC Crooks urged people not to be tempted to reply to any form of correspondence that they think might be a scam.
He added that anyone who receives such an email should report it immediately to http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/
