CHILDREN AS YOUNG AS TEN TORCH TRAFFIC LIGHTS IN DERRY

POLICE say they are investigating disorder at the traffic lights on Madams Bank Road last night in Derry.

Fire fighters who attended the scene to put a fire and burning bottles on the road were attacked with a stone around 8.45 pm.

A PSNI Foyle spokesperson said: “What is shocking to us is that the main offenders were aged between 10-12 years.

“These children were setting traffic lights on fire and endangering road users, the Fire Service and more importantly themselves.

“The community is rightly disgusted by these actions.

“Police would encourage parents to be aware of what their children are up to.

“We do not want to be calling at houses informing parents that their children have been seriously injured having been playing with traffic and playing with fire.

“Ballyarnett NPT are following the disorder.”
