ARTISTIC directors have announced the second outstanding guest artist from the world of classical music as part of the line-up for the 8thWalled City Music chamber music festival which takes place at The Glassworks in Derry between 2-5 June.
Much-loved, renowned and celebrated American pianist Jeremy Denk will perform on Saturday 4 June in the atmospheric surrounds of The Glassworks. Denk is one of America’s foremost pianists, an artist the New York Times hails as someone ‘you want to hear no matter what he performs’.
This June Denk joins the WCMF line-up with a stunning programme including works by Byrd, Bach and Schubert as well as a series of ragtime music by composers such as Stravinsky, Hindemith and Ives.
Denk’s performances have been described as “exhilarating”, with “jaw-dropping virtuosity” and “extraordinarily powerful”.
Walled City Music Executive Director Matthew Greenall, said: “We are delighted that Jeremy Denk has agreed to perform at this year’s Walled City Music Festival.
“Jeremy is one of the world’s most innovative programmers and is a natural communicator as well as a consummate musician.
“His recital at the 2015 BBC Proms in London was a highlight of their chamber season, and we look forward to welcoming him to Derry for what will be a very special concert.”
